Heliotrope Ridge @ Mt. Baker

The hike was not very long nor was it difficult. We met Elly who hiked along with us the rest of the way. She was very interesting to talk with and that helped the time go by faster. There were groups of people ice climbing on the glacier below us and a number of day hikers even later in the day. A few climbers as well getting ready to scale Mt. Baker in the morning.

After we got back to B'ham we got cleaned up and went to see Herbie Hancock at the Mt. Baker Theater. How apropos was that?!?

My long wait is over! Ever since Anali started college at WWU in Bellingham, Washington I have wanted to hike this trail. Her and Peter have done it about four times. The trouble is that it is a very short season hike as the access road and trail are usually socked in with snow until June. In June sometimes it is in-accessible secondary to a difficult glacial stream crossing. Luckily this time we were able to scurry over the rocks without getting wet. That is a good thing since my feet are SO sensitive to cold.
